POE 2 Abyss farming works best when you stop judging a map by its biggest drop. In the 0.5.5 setup described here, Abyssal Troves are the target for Preserved Craniums, while rare monsters give you another shot at Omens of Light. That split matters before you spend POE 2 Currency on Waystones, Tablets, and Cryptic Keys: you're paying for more rewarding Abyss encounters, not buying a predictable Cranium drop. Build around both sources of loot, then check what the whole session earned.
How Do You Set Up Abyss Maps for Craniums and Omens of Light
Start with the Troves. Preserved Craniums come from Abyssal Troves, so a map packed with monsters but short on rewarding Abyss chests misses the point of a Cranium-focused run. The tested setup used two Abyss Tablets with the modifier that makes Abyss Pits twice as likely to contain rewards. That improves your opportunities to find worthwhile Troves; it doesn't mean every pit pays out. Trove Seekers is another sensible Atlas choice because it increases rare chest opportunities.
Keep the two rarity stats straight while preparing Waystones. Item Rarity on Waystones and Tablets supports the chest side of this farm, while Monster Rarity supports the rare-monster side, including your chances at Omens of Light. The tested recommendation for a more expensive setup was corrupted Tier 15 or Tier 16 maps with roughly 60% or more Monster Rarity and at least 40% Item Rarity. Those are targets from one setup, not a threshold you must hit before Abyss becomes playable.
Tier 15 maps offer a cheaper starting point if you'd rather keep the rotation going than spend heavily preparing each run. Two-mod Tablets can also make more sense than pricey three- or four-mod options when you're still measuring returns. A modifier that adds a chance for Desecrated Currency gives the farm another source of value. On City maps, a Delirium Tablet can add Splinters and Grand Mirror opportunities, but it also adds pressure. Only pay for that layer if your build clears it without dragging down map speed.
How Should You Run Abyss Maps and Measure Profit
Once inside, follow the Abyss encounters and make time for valuable Troves. Bring Cryptic Keys before you start: using one on a Trove can let you open that chest twice, which is a strong reason to keep a supply ready. An Atlas effect that lets Unique Monsters produce keys can help replace some of what you spend. Don't treat every pit as a reason to inspect the floor for a minute, though. A filter that keeps Bones, Omens, currency, and other tradeable rewards visible makes it easier to maintain pace.
Rare monsters still deserve attention even when Craniums are the headline. In the reported 35-map test, the main Abyss rewards included 10 Omens of Light, 21 Abyssal Echoes, six Craniums, four Ancient Ribs, four Jawbones, and five Kulocks Invitations. That mix explains why the approach can work through an unlucky stretch of Troves: an Omen or another Abyss drop may carry part of a map's return. It doesn't make the results repeatable on demand, and a slower build may see a very different hourly figure.
The test valued those main rewards at about 233 Divines and put map and Tablet costs near 33 Divines. At roughly 10 maps an hour, the resulting estimate was a little over 57 Divines per hour before counting every smaller drop. Track your own Waystones, Tablets, keys, and sale prices rather than lifting that figure into your budget. Craniums were valued at about 13 Divines each in the test, and a price change alone could shift the result sharply. Count what sells, not just what looks valuable in a stash tab.
Final Thoughts
For your next POE 2 session, try a manageable run of Tier 15 Abyss maps with reward-focused Tablets, enough Cryptic Keys for the Troves you find, and a record of what you actually spend. Add corrupted maps or Delirium only after the basic loop feels quick and profitable for your build. Keep that farming calculation separate from any decision to buy POE 2 Mirror of Kalandra; the useful number is your own net return per hour, not the best result from someone else's 35 maps.
